So much going on...

Wow! It's only been two weeks since my last post but so much has gone on to tell you about! Maybe that's why it has been so long (no free time) and why I am so tired! So, where to start...

When I last wrote, James was eating like a big!!! He was eating every 1.5-2 hours all day and then waking up at night to eat which he hadn't done in a while. I talked to some friends and they said their babies did this around 4 months for 2 weeks which comforted me but thought food might be in order too! We got the okay from the pediatrician and started rice cereal on Tuesday, August 10th at 6am so Daddy could be there to enjoy before going to work. The first experience was a little challenging but he has really taken to food since then! (Watch out Slade boys, there is a new Slade in town to steal your spot at the front of the buffet line!) He enjoys his rice cereal, bananas, and avocado thus far! Though we don't know if the rice cereal and bananas enjoy him because he has had some bouts of gas in the middle of the night, poor guy. We are going to try oatmeal and sweet potatoes soon so we'll let you know how they go!

Douglas, Ross, Derek, Mom, and Dad made the trip up to Folsom on July 30th to celebrate Douglas's 21st birthday with Michelle, Gary, Josh, James, and I. It was fun to hang out with the whole family together, including my bros Derek and Ross of course! Happy 21st Boo Bear!! I can't believe how grown up you are and what a wonderful young man you are! I am so proud!

For Josh's 28th birthday, James and I surprised him with a trip to Mendocino for the weekend! It was great fun because I can never keep a secret/surprise from Josh but he actually didn't know where we were going until I told him when we were about an hour away. James did a great job with all the driving and with his first night sleeping in a hotel. He slept in the bathroom so we wouldn't disturb each other and slept until 7:45 am with only 1 wake up in the middle of the night. That was major sleeping in for us!!! He got to meet the Pacific Ocean for the first time which he was less than thrilled with since he basically slept through most of it. He also got to meet his Great Granny for the first time which we all enjoyed!!!

James also got to meet his G.G. Curran and Great Auntie Lou (Poo) when he got home from the Mendocino trip. Two great grandmas in one day!!! We enjoyed a wonderful visit from G.G., Auntie Lou, and Uncle Glenn for about a week both here in Folsom and at the cabin in Arnold. They got to enjoy watching James eat his first food and do lots of playing. Unfortunately, there was also lots of fussing, crying, spitting up, and pooping (Auntie Lou Poo's favorite, especially when it gets on her!) but that's what a baby does!

Immediately after the Southern California crew left, Grandpa Dave came up to the cabin to do some fishing and visit with James. James enjoyed hanging out at the dinner table and getting some food from his Daddy while on Grandpa Dave's lap.

Uncle Doug (Stretch) also joined us at the cabin for a few days. He was kind enough to teach James how to sit on the couch to watch sports while playing with the remote control. Thanks bro!!!

Yesterday, James had his four month check up at the pediatrician's office. He did a great job and is as healthy as can be! He weighs 15lbs. 12oz. (75%ish) and is 27 inches long (90%ish). He got 4 shots and only cried for 15 seconds. Such a brave little boy! He then had to go to mommy's doctor's appointment with her and sat in his stroller playing with his toys for the whole time. Such a good little boy!

With all of the activity going on, James has also learned new things...

- James kind of gets that crib means sleep now! He has been taking naps in his crib this week and it only takes him about 10-20 minutes of fussing to fall asleep. The vacuum cleaner helps very much with this because the sound helps lull him to sleep, plus I don't have to listen to him cry and the house gets vacuumed!!! (3 times in the past 3 days now!)

- The car is the devil!!! James has decided that he HATES the car now!!! The second the car seat snaps into the car he starts crying/screaming! This made for a very fun 2 hour car ride home from the cabin (he screamed for 1.5 hours of it!) But anytime I stop the car and take him out, he stops immediatly. And, he doesn't mind the car seat in the stroller so I don't get it. Hopefully this too will pass!

- Moving around... James has been moving around more and more every day! We swear he is going to start crawling any day now but I think we still have a few months thankfully!

Coming adventures...

- We are leaving this afternoon for our first camping adventure with James. We are heading up to Icehouse (about 3o minutes north of highway 50 on the way to Tahoe) for 3 nights of fun. The Maganas and Pearts are joining us up there. An 18th month old, 6 month old, and 4 month old camping sounds like lots of fun! We are hoping for the best!

- Josh and I are playing on an adult c0-ed recreational softball team in Folsom starting on Monday. This too will be an adventure because we have 4 babies under 7 months, a 16 month old, and one 8 month pregnant wife who is due in the middle of the season! Again, we are hoping for the best!

- I go back to work in 2 weeks. :-( I am going to miss James so much but excited to see my friends at work too. We are dropping James off at the babysitter for a few hours on Tuesday so Josh and I can go on a little date then to the dentist. How romantic!

I'll try to do a better job of posting more frequently so there aren't these novels every two weeks. I hope everyone is doing well! Love to all! (I was planning on adding lots of cute pictures from all our recent adventures but I have to get packed for camping so I will have to do pictures later.)

  2. It sounds like James is doing great! I especially like that he went to the doctor with you and just played with his toys... that makes life easier than trying to keep him asleep or entertained. I hope you have fun camping!
