On Thursday afternoon (my birthday), James mentioned that he had an owie in his mouth. It seemed like two-year-old molars to me so we talked about how he was getting new teeth. He asked for orange ones so we wrote a little letter to the tooth fairy asking for orange teeth. Well, that was the ONLY nice part about the teething. Let's just say that the pain was so bad that James stopped eating, drinking, sucking his thumb, and sleeping over the next two days! For those of you who know James, you know that it's a horrible combination! Since he couldn't suck his thumb to soothe himself, he walked around the house moaning and whining. And he refused to take any medication!!! It got so bad that by Saturday afternoon, he wasn't using any words, just grunting and pointing and was shaking while playing with water and Tupperware in the sink because he was so weak. I was getting pretty scared to say the least!!!
THANKFULLY, Gaga was there and she was finally able to get James to drink some water. Once he realized that he could drink water, he drank a TON! But still refused to eat anything. We also decided that it was necessary to hold him down to get medicine in him and keep it in him as much as possible to get the pain under control. That night, Gaga slept with him on the living room floor and rubbed his back to help him back to sleep every 20 minutes! Poor guy! THANK YOU so much for getting my little boy back that night Mommy!!!
On Sunday morning, James woke up and asked for oatmeal. He proceeded to eat two packs of oatmeal followed by a few bowls of Lucky Charms. Every time I turned around the rest of the day, James was eating another bowl of Lucky Charms!!!! Way too much sugar for sure but it didn't matter as long as he was eating and feeling better!
A few days later, James woke up and told me "My tooth came in!" So sweet of him! A HORRIBLE teething experience that I hope no one else ever has to experience. Take away lesson for James and me... medicate, medicate, medicate for teething to keep the pain under control!!!
