Pop Quiz
So today... James decided that today would be a great day to give me a pop quiz in Surviving Motherhood 101! Here's how it went... We had some errands to do near the house so I decided this morning right before James needed to take a nap to load up the stroller and do the errands on foot. Unfortunately, I forgot the diaper changing pad at Colleen's yesterday so I decided to just bring a receiving blanket to change him on and use the same blanket to cover up when feeding him. Thinking both were going to be a rare chance since he would probably sleep the whole time, I thought this would be a safe choice plus it would save on space in the stroller. Well, James woke up in Target and walked around in the Bjorn with me for a little while. Then after we checked out, I decided to change his diaper before heading home. Unfortunately, the poop had escaped out the top of the diaper onto his onesie and onto the receiving blanket when I changed him. While changing him, he also decided to pee so the receiving blanket was out of commission from then on. The end of the diaper change consisted of screaming because of hunger and gas so I decided to feed him; unfortunately, the blanket I was going to use to cover myself was covered in pee and poop. At this time I also had to go potty myself which was very challenging in a public restroom, breastfeeding, and wearing my pre-pregnancy pants which are not exactly easy to button yet!!! I stood in the Target bathroom for a little while but really did not want to stand there for 30 minutes to feed James but had nothing to cover myself so I could leave the restroom. Until I remembered the new pajamas I bought James... so I unbuttoned those and use them to cover up. I thought it would be an easy dash across the front of Target feeding James under the pajamas and pushing the stroller until James had a bout of gas which caused him to scream, arch his back, and straighten his legs!!!! Not as easy as I thought!!!! We finally made it to the corner of Starbucks in Target and were able to finish the rest of our feeding in relative peacefulness thankfully! The next challenge was where to change James' new dirty diaper now that the only blanket I had to lie him down on was covered in pee and poop! Thanks to Crystal's advice months ago, I was able to use the stroller which worked wonderfully and somehow stayed clean during the change. So, the lesson of the day... either bring two blankets or pajamas can be used as a hootie hider in desperate times!!!
