We were planning on moving James to a big boy bed after the holidays so that we could wait until that busy time of year and have him out of the crib for the new little one. Well, James decided that the new year was too far away and that now would be a much better time! For the past few weeks, James has been wanting to lie down in the guest bed with Josh or I for a few minutes before going to bed. We will lie down for a few minutes, then ask him if he's ready for bed, he'll say yes, and we'll put him in his crib. When we went down to Avila Beach for Michelle and Gary's wedding, James slept in the only room so there was a queen size bed in his room and he loved the lying down time even more. He also got to snuggle with us in bed every morning because he was getting up at the crack of dawn!
Well, when we got home on Sunday, we laid down in the guest bed as usual upon his request and when we asked if he was ready to go to bed he protested. I asked if he wanted to go to sleep in the big bed and he said "yes". So there it was, I left him to go to sleep in the big boy bed! He got up once and came out which resulted in a prompt return to bed with the threat that if he got up again it was to the crib he would go. After 30 minutes of not hearing from him, I peeked in to find a sleeping little boy in a very large queen bed (with no rail in a non-baby-proof room!!!!) Sunday night was spent borrowing a bedrail which we snuck in while he was sleeping, sneaking the monitor into the room, and trying to baby-proof the room as much as possible in the dark with a sleeping little boy!
Each night James has done a great job of sleeping in his big boy bed!!! This weekend we even did the big move of taking the guest bed up to the cabin in exchange for a low twin size bed for James. We even moved the crib into the guest room and put the twin bed in James's room! (When did James get so big!?!?!?!?)
James has even done a great job in the morning of calling out to Mommy and waiting for me to come in before getting out of bed. Granted, I don't make him wait very long but still, he is waiting a few minutes which is great. Unfortunately, James has been getting up quite early lately so Mommy has been getting up early but hopefully we can work on that later.
Unfortunately, naps have not been going so well in the big boy bed... see previous post! But, we will continue to work on it and, in the meantime, we have a big boy bed for bedtime and a crib for naptime! So proud of my little boy!!!
