Potty Training

Potty training, potty training, potty training... it has been an adventure over the past few months.  We have tried potty training with James several times but have never been completely successful and have always returned to diapers.  But I feel like James is ready for potty training and I want to get the potty training done by the time I return to work in August.  After Colleen and Isa (and a few other friends) had success with the 3-day potty training method, we decided to give it a shot.  The basic jist of the 3-day potty training method is to throw all the diapers away, tell them to go in the potty, put the kiddo in undies and a shirt, then follow them around and say "Let Mommy know if you need to go potty" for 3 days.  I tried my own version of this without knowing all the rules several weeks ago but had a lot of difficulty following James around at all times and taking care of Jack.  So we decided to get help!

This past weekend was the last free weekend before I return to work so it was time to potty train. Gaga was gracious enough to come up on Thursday evening, help with Jack and James all day on Friday, then head back to Livermore on Saturday morning.  Josh was home all weekend to help then Michelle was kind enough to spend her day off helping.  (We decided to do 4 days to be on the safe side.)

Let's just say that James has done GREAT!!!!  I think that throwing the diapers away must have been the lucky ticket because James is doing a wonderful job with the potty training!  We have had a few accidents but not nearly as many as I had expected and there are fewer each day!  Tomorrow is my first day on my own with both boys again so I am a little nervous but hoping for the best!

A few cute stories:

- We have a big box of prizes for him to choose from when he goes poo-poo in the potty which has really helped encourage going in the potty.  Let's just say that James has an uncanny ability to make the smallest pea-sized poop MANY times a day so he can get another prize!!  He has quite a few new Matchbox cars that he loves and has affectionately named his "Poo-poo cars"!
- Day 1 naptime (I say naptime because the actual nap never occurred!): James decided to test out his new potty control by standing up on the bed and going right there!  Amazingly, I caught this all on the video monitor and this was one less-than-happy mother!!!  Luckily, that has been a one-time thing so far!
- Running water could be more than James's bladder can handle!  Yesterday, James decided to "do the dishes" with a full bladder and ended up with a puddle under him!  Oops!

Guess that's about all for now!  I think I have finally caught up on the blog and I will do my best to stay caught up.  Hope everyone is doing well!  Love to all!!!
